Emergency Contraception

If contraception is not used every time sexual intercourse takes place, pregnancy may result. Emergency contraception, such as tablets or a coil, is available to help prevent unwanted pregnancy.

Tablets can be taken up to 72 hours after unprotected sex, or a coil fitted in cases up to five days after.

If you need emergency contraception please tell the receptionist you need to be seen as an extra emergency appointment. If she requests to know the reason why, please ask to speak to her in private.

Emergency contraception works better when taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex.
